El Salvador Supported in South Korea Free Trade Talks

El Salvador has been granted financial assistance to enable the nation to continue to engage in negotiations with other Central American states towards a free trade deal with South Korea. The Central American Bank for Economic Integration has agreed to grant El Salvador USD100,000 to fund the nation’s logistical, technical, and administrative needs.

After a first round of talks in November 2015, the free trade deal with South Korea is expected to be concluded by the middle of this year. South Korea and the Central American states – El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica – held a third round of FTA talks in February this year. This round of negotiations discussed rules of origin, trade in services and investment, technical barriers to trade, and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.
